Instagram Caption Generator
This Instagram caption generator writes caption ideas from your post topic, niche and tone, with a live character count on each one. Pick a caption, tweak a word or two, then copy it with the line breaks intact.
There’s a TikTok tab as well, headed “TikTok caption generator”, that counts against TikTok’s limits. The tool runs in your browser with no login, and nothing you type leaves your device.

Nothing you type leaves your device. Counters use UTF-16 units, the same family of count the apps use.

How the Instagram caption generator works
The tool fills ready-made caption templates with your topic and phrases from your niche. Because it uses templates rather than an AI model, there’s no wait and no data sent anywhere.
- Choose Instagram or TikTok.
- Type your post topic, such as “new matcha latte”.
- Pick a niche and a tone: funny, aesthetic, professional, inspirational, casual, bold or short.
- Then choose a length and whether to add emoji, line breaks, a call to action or a few hashtags.
You get 8 captions per click, and “More” gives you a fresh set. Each card shows a counter and a marker for roughly where Instagram cuts the preview with “…more”.
Instagram caption length
An Instagram caption can be up to 2,200 characters, according to Meta’s developer docs. Hashtags and emoji count toward that total.
However, most people only see the start. Instagram usually shows about the first 125 characters before “…more”, so that opening line has to earn the tap. That’s why every caption from the tool leads with its hook.
TikTok caption length
TikTok’s own developer docs cap a video caption at 2,200 characters when you post through an app or scheduler. Many creators also report a 4,000-character limit inside the TikTok app. Still, we couldn’t find that figure on an official TikTok help page, so check the counter in your app.
In practice, you rarely need either limit. So the TikTok tab warns you at 2,200 and stops at 4,000.
A caption formula that works
Most strong captions follow three steps: a hook, some value or story, and a call to action. The hook gets attention, the middle gives a reason to stay, and the call to action tells people what to do next.
Example 1: a café post
“Our matcha latte just got an oat-milk upgrade 🍵 Same ceremonial-grade matcha, now creamier and a little sweeter. Which milk should we try next? Tell us below 👇”
Example 2: a fitness Reel
“3 moves for stronger knees, no gym needed. Do each one for 30 seconds, twice through. Easy on the joints, hard on the excuses. Save this for leg day 💾”
Caption ideas by niche
Here are a few short examples in the styles the tool writes. They’re examples only, so swap in your own details.
- Food: “Five ingredients, ten minutes, zero regrets.” · “Tell me you love garlic without telling me.” · “Save this for your next lazy Sunday.”
- Fitness: “Small reps, big habits.” · “Your sign to stretch today.” · “Which move surprised you most?”
- Beauty: “Glow first, coffee second.” · “My 3-step routine for dry winter skin.” · “Swatches in the last slide 👉”
- Travel: “Took the long way and didn’t regret it.” · “Lisbon on a budget: part 1.” · “Where should I go next?”
- Small business: “Packed by hand, sent with love.” · “New colours just landed.” · “Tag someone who’d love this.”
- Pets: “He thinks he’s a lapdog. He’s 30 kilos.” · “Rate this zoomie out of 10.” · “Who else’s cat does this?”
How many hashtags to add on Instagram
Instagram now allows up to 5 hashtags on a post or Reel. It announced the change in December 2025, and its Help Center says that if you include more than 5, the post won’t go through.
Instagram also says fewer, more targeted hashtags work better than many generic ones. So if you switch on “add hashtags”, the tool adds 3 to 5 at most. For a fuller set, use our TikTok hashtag generator, which has an Instagram tab capped at 5.
Next steps for your profile

FAQ
How long can an Instagram caption be?
Up to 2,200 characters, including hashtags, emoji and spaces. That said, only about the first 125 characters show before “…more”. So put the most interesting line first, and keep the rest easy to skim with short lines or line breaks.
How long can a TikTok caption be?
TikTok’s developer docs set 2,200 characters for captions posted through apps and schedulers. Many creators report 4,000 in the TikTok app itself, but TikTok’s help pages don’t state it. So check the counter when you post, and keep the key words near the start.
Should hashtags go in the caption or a comment?
Both work for tagging a post. Instagram’s own Search guidance suggests putting keywords and hashtags in the caption if you want the post to show up in search. Either way, the 5-hashtag limit applies, so pick tags that match the post.
How do I add line breaks to an Instagram caption?
Press Return in the caption box, or type your caption elsewhere and paste it in. Our copy button keeps line breaks as you see them on the card. If a break disappears, turn on the “keep line breaks” option in the tool before copying.
Do captions affect reach?
Captions help people and Instagram understand what your post is about, which can help it show up in search. They also give viewers a reason to comment or save. However, no caption can promise more reach, so focus on being clear and useful.
