TikTok Hashtag Generator
Our TikTok hashtag generator builds a short, focused set of tags for your niche and topic, split into broad, niche and specific groups. Toggle the ones you want, then copy them as one line.
There’s an Instagram tab too, capped at Instagram’s 5-tag limit. Everything runs in your browser with no login, and nothing you type leaves your device.

Last checked: October 13, 2026. Tags come from hand-picked lists by niche, not live trend data.
How the TikTok hashtag generator works
The tool picks tags from lists our team built by hand for each niche. It also turns your topic words into tags, so “matcha latte” gives you #matchalatte and #matcharecipe.
First, choose TikTok or Instagram. Next, pick a niche and add a few topic words. Then use the slider to lean broad or specific, and set how many tags you want.
Tags appear in three groups, and you can switch any of them off. Finally, “Copy selected” gives you a space-separated line. The tool also shows how many caption characters those tags use.
Because the lists are fixed, we don’t claim any tag is popular right now. We simply have no live trend source, so we’d rather not guess.
How many hashtags to use on TikTok
TikTok doesn’t publish a limit on the number of hashtags. Instead, tags count toward your caption, which TikTok’s developer docs cap at 2,200 characters for posts made through apps and schedulers.
As a working rule, 3 to 5 focused tags is plenty. That’s why the tool defaults to 5, though you can pick anywhere from 3 to 10.
How many hashtags you can use on Instagram
Instagram allows up to 5 hashtags per post or Reel. It announced the change on December 18, 2025, and rolled it out gradually. Before that, the limit was 30.
In Instagram’s words, “using fewer (up to 5) more targeted hashtags, rather than many generic ones, can improve both your content’s performance and people’s experience on Instagram.” So the Instagram tab never gives you more than 5.
Broad vs niche vs specific hashtags
A good set mixes one or two broad tags with a couple of niche tags and at least one specific tag. Broad tags describe a big topic, niche tags narrow it down, and specific tags describe this exact post.
For example, a video of a matcha latte recipe might use:
- Broad: #food
- Niche: #matcha, #cafedrinks
- Specific: #matchalatte, #icedmatcharecipe
Broad tags are crowded, so they rarely help a post stand out by themselves. Specific tags, on the other hand, match what someone is actually looking for.
Common hashtag mistakes
Most hashtag problems come from using tags that don’t match the post.
- Irrelevant tags. A tag that doesn’t fit the video can confuse viewers who find it.
- The same set every time. Copy-pasting one block on every post ignores what each video is about.
- Stuffing. Long walls of tags eat caption space and look spammy. On Instagram, more than 5 won’t post at all.
Hashtag sets by niche
Here are sample sets of 5 in the style the tool builds. They’re examples only, so adjust them to your post.

- Beauty: #beauty #skincare #dryskin #winterskincare #skincareroutine

- Gaming: #gaming #cozygames #indiegames #stardewvalley #farmlife

FAQ
How many hashtags should I use on TikTok?
TikTok doesn’t set a number, but 3 to 5 focused tags is a sensible default. They count toward your caption length, so a long list eats into space for words. Choose tags that describe the video, rather than adding as many as possible.
How many hashtags can you put on Instagram?
Up to 5 per post or Reel. Instagram announced the limit in December 2025, replacing the old limit of 30. Its Help Center says a post with more than 5 tags won’t go through, so the Instagram tab in our tool caps every set at 5.
Do hashtags still work on TikTok?
Yes, as labels. Hashtags help describe what a video is about, and people can tap them to find similar posts. However, they aren’t a shortcut to more views. Treat them as a way to organise your content, and let the video do the heavy lifting.
Is #fyp worth using?
It’s not proven to help. #fyp is extremely broad and crowded, and TikTok hasn’t said it boosts anything. So if you use it, keep it in your broad group, and spend your other slots on tags that describe the video. That’s where the tool puts it, with a note.
Are these hashtags based on live trends?
No. Our team picks them by niche, and the lists don’t update live. We don’t have a trend source, so we don’t claim any tag is popular right now. For what’s popular right now, look at TikTok’s own search and Discover pages.
Can I use the same hashtags on Instagram and TikTok?
Often, yes, since many topic tags work on both. Still, Instagram caps you at 5, while TikTok has no set number. So keep your 5 strongest tags for Instagram and add a few extra on TikTok if they fit.
