TikTok Shadowban: How to Check and Get Unshadowbanned

The female Muddlefox mascot checks her TikTok phone with a magnifying glass next to the TikTok shadowban post title.

A TikTok shadowban is what creators call it when their views suddenly drop and new videos stop reaching people who don’t follow them. TikTok doesn’t use that word. Usually, the cause is either videos that aren’t eligible for the For You feed, or a normal dip in views. You can check most of this inside the app.

So check first, before you delete anything or change your whole strategy. Then fix only what needs fixing.

What is a TikTok shadowban?

A “shadowban” usually means your videos stop showing up on the For You feed, while your followers and your profile still work.

TikTok frames this as For You feed eligibility. Some content is made ineligible because it may not suit a broad audience, but people can still find it through search or your profile. TikTok also says a video with few views hasn’t necessarily broken a rule.

Am I shadowbanned on TikTok? How to check

The most reliable check is TikTok’s own Account check. Your analytics and a quick search test add context.

Check your account status in the app

In the TikTok app, tap Profile, then the Menu button at the top, and select TikTok Studio. Under More tools, tap Account check.

Account check shows whether you’re restricted from posting, commenting, editing your profile or messaging. A checkmark means no issue, and a warning sign means there is one. TikTok has also said it covers recent posts that were removed or kept from the For You feed.

Look at your traffic sources in analytics

Next, open a recent video’s analytics. The Traffic source section shows where viewers found it, such as the For You feed, the Following feed, your profile or search.

One weak video doesn’t mean much. However, a For You share near zero across several videos is worth acting on. Also, if a video was made ineligible, TikTok shows a notification in its analytics.

Search for your username from a second account

Finally, search your username from an account that doesn’t follow you. It’s a rough check, though, because it tells you little about the For You feed.

Shadowban or just a views dip?

Most of the time, a sudden drop is an ordinary dip in views.

  • Signs of a For You limit: Account check shows a warning, a video was removed or marked ineligible, or the For You share stays near zero over several videos.
  • Signs of a normal dip: Account check is clear, you posted less often, a trend you joined has ended, your hooks got weaker, or you changed your posting time.

So a For You limit shows up in Account check, while a normal dip usually does not.

What causes a TikTok shadowban?

Most causes fall into three groups: guideline issues, unoriginal content and account behaviour.

Videos that break community guidelines

TikTok uses automated and human review to find guideline violations. When a video breaks a rule, TikTok removes it and tells you why, and a first violation usually brings a warning strike. In other cases, TikTok keeps the video up but makes it ineligible for the For You feed.

Reposted or unoriginal content

TikTok’s guidelines say content is ineligible for the For You feed if it reuses unoriginal material without adding anything new. So reposting other creators’ clips can hold back your reach.

Spammy behaviour and apps that log in as you

Mass following, mass unfollowing and copy-paste comments make an account look automated. Likewise, apps that ask for your password can act as you. TikTok says it never shares your password with third-party apps, and it suggests you avoid linking unknown ones.

How to get unshadowbanned on TikTok

To get unshadowbanned on TikTok, find the cause, fix it, then keep posting original videos.

  1. Run Account check. Note any warnings on your account or posts.
  2. Appeal or fix flagged videos. If you think TikTok got it wrong, appeal from the post’s analytics. Otherwise, edit or delete the video.
  3. Remove apps that hold your password, then change your password.
  4. Slow down mass actions, like bulk follows, likes and comments.
  5. Post original videos normally. Keep to your usual topics and pace.
  6. Watch the For You share. Check traffic sources on each new video.

Then follow the six steps, and check Account check again after each change.

How long does a TikTok shadowban last?

There’s no fixed timeline. It depends on the cause and whether you fixed or appealed it. If an appeal succeeds, TikTok says the post becomes eligible for the For You feed again. So check Account check and your analytics after each change rather than counting days.

How to keep views healthy after a shadowban

Once Account check is clear, use the habits that grow any account: a strong first second, one clear topic per video, and a schedule you can keep.

Timing helps too. Our guide to the best time to post shows how to find yours in analytics.

Some creators also add a small views boost to a strong new video for early social proof. However, it doesn’t lift a restriction or fix a flagged video.

FAQ

Does TikTok tell you if you’re shadowbanned?

Not in those words. Instead, TikTok notifies you when it removes a video, and a post that’s ineligible for the For You feed gets a notification in its analytics. Account check also lists restrictions on your account. To see these decisions, you may need to turn on analytics in TikTok Studio first.

Can buying TikTok followers get you shadowbanned?

Services that log in as you add risk, because they act on your account directly. At Muddlefox, we only ask for your username or video link, never your password. Packages are one-time orders with Instant Start, and you can pay by crypto (MetaMask), card or PayPal. Even so, no one can promise that buying has no effect on an account.

Does deleting and reposting a video fix a shadowban?

Not by itself. If a video breaks a guideline, the same video still breaks it when you post it again. Instead, check the reason in the post’s analytics, then appeal, edit or delete it. That way you deal with the cause rather than starting over.

Does using TikTok Promote get you shadowbanned?

TikTok’s help pages don’t say it does. Promote is TikTok’s own ad tool, and a promoted post can be rejected if it breaks the Community Guidelines or the ads policy. For the costs and trade-offs, see our post on TikTok Promote.

Will switching between a personal and business account remove a shadowban?

TikTok’s help pages don’t say switching account type changes For You eligibility, and the same Community Guidelines apply to every account. So switching won’t clear a flag on a video. Instead, fix or appeal what Account check shows, then keep posting original work.

Wrap-up

A TikTok shadowban is usually a For You limit or a normal dip, and Account check plus your analytics tell you which. Fix what they flag, then keep posting. If you’d like early social proof on your next strong video, you can buy TikTok views with Instant Start and no password.
